Does Linux have a true unix kernel????

Does Linux have a true unix kernel???? As far as I know, it doesn't have a true unix kernel like solaris, hp, sco, and so on. I've always looked at linux as kind of a Windows machine with commands similar to a unix flavor OS. I ran into some CTO today that kept telling me that linux is unix. I disagreed and told him that the kernel is not a true unix kernel and that it's a linux kerenel. He was pretty ticked off since I guess I doubted him in front of several people. He was searching the net all day and printing off docs he found that stated linux is unix. But they were all non-official. Can anyone point me to a site or link that will show this fool that linux is just NT trying to be unix - and that it does not contain a real genuine unix kernel. Thanks.
