z/vm mainframes question
This is going to be hard for me to explain so please bare with me and I am not working on Mainframes, just very interested in them and reading about their functions.
Ok, A friend of mine who worked for the City as a Level 2 Operations Computer Manager took me in for a tour one night. And what I saw were numerous Windows 2000-based flat-panel LCD consoles that generated messages on an emulator, it was like a log of some sort with starting with the date/time and then like 7-character message code. Now, the one I looked at, my friend told me it was connected to the Z/VM running SUSE Linux mainframe. That to also had messages on it. Now, I've been reading about all messages online. Now my question is (since my friend moved), what type of messages should I read upon on thats generated by the Z/VM running Linux? Because theres at least all types like the MVS, TSO. VS/ESA etc... but they do not tell me or explain whether those messages are from a Mainframe running Linux or not (thats the problem)... But I dont recall on what messages were on that console generated by the Z/VM running SUSE Linux. It was like something like this: IEII878XX. But I dont remember at all.
If, someone can post a screenshot of the same console that I saw grabbing its messages from the Z/VM running Linux, than I would appreciate it. It has to be LINUX running on the Mainframe. Or also you can send them to this email address below. Please, I would appreciate the effort.
All Im basically asking for is a screenshot of a console connected to a IBM Z/VM Mainframe running Linux.

OK, in the URL link below there is a section on MESSAGES. Now, like I said, my friend took me into his datacenter and I saw this console that had these messages like the ones you see in the Messages in the link I provided you. But my question is that on that console it had messages from the Z/VM running SUSE Linux.
Under the messages section it DOES NOT tell me whether those messages are from a Z/VM running Linux or not. Thats what I want to know.

Basically, I saw the same type of messages as those in the link. But that Messages Section does not really explain whether those messages are from a Z/VM system running Linux or not.
Now, does it really matter from what type of Mainframes the messages look like or not?

Z/VM is designed to support multiple guesting operating system such as linux, DOS/ESP and etc. You have to login Z/VM with a userid say linux1 and it has a profile to contain the hardware configuration. At this id (ie lunux1) you can enter CP command which is Z/VM command and linux command (if the linux is booted). I don't understand your question about your question is about console log. Do you mean the Z/VM console log or linux console solg?
The link is for IBM Z/OS (ie OS390 or MVS) and not for Z/VM

I am speaking in terms of the console that I saw generating those messages from the Z/VM running Linux. Now the link that I posted and within that website there is a section on there that involves MESSAGES. There are MVS messages, TSO messages, and so forth.
But my problem is, is that how can I tell if those messages are from a Z/VM system running LINUX?? Thats my question. Because I've been reading on there the MVS Messages.
Now for those messages, do they also pertain to the Z/VM running LINUX?

OK, for example, heres a message sample layout. The question is, is there any way to tell if these messages are generated from a Z/VM Mainframe running SUSE LINUX?

Ok....
Please let me explain a bit more here. Lets say I have a system message like above. Ok, my question is, when I have a message like the examples in the PDF and my example above, does it really matter which Mainframe is it from? Or, all those messages have the same format no matter what Mainframe there generated from.
In other words (once again...) how can I tell if these messages are generated from which Mainframe system? Like SUSE Linux running on Z/VM? or S/390 system??? Is there like a banner when the consoles are started like "Z/VM SUSE LINUX" and such? When I saw the datacenter, Im referring to the "Consoles" which get their applications from the Mainframes...
Thanks

Sorry guys....
Ok now I know that the messages ARE FROM THE Z/VM Mainframe system....I UNDERSTAND that, and thanks for those PDF downloads.
But the question still remains....is there a way to tell what Operating System thats running on the Z/VM in those messages???
Thats all Im wondering about...Thats all..... I just need to know, is how can I tell (in those messages or in the message console) that the Z/VM is running LINUX or not???
Thats all.

They are Z/OS console message and not Z/VM. For example STC means STC task (ie AIX daemon). $HASPxxxx is the JES2 messages.

oK, and how can I tell in those examples in the Z/VM Messages for CP documents?
If the messages were Z/VM messages, then is there a way to tell in those messages that the Z/VM Mainframe is running Linux?

BTW, can you post some examples of a Z/VM message that contains a Linux daemon in it?
As Linux does not know that it is running under Z/VM or DLPAR. I don't understand your question.

Ok, you see this console picture in this URL. I want you to please look at it.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.jaymoseley.com/hercules/images/mvscons.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.jaymoseley.com/hercules/mvscons.htm&h=461&w=656&sz=60&tbnid=M9aR2PB-VAwJ:&tbnh=95&tbnw=135&hl=en&start=3&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmvs%2Bconsole%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG
Now, I saw the same console and my friend said it was getting its messages from the Z/VM running Linux. The same console. But I cant remember it was a while back since he took me in.
Is there way to read the messages and codes generated from the Z/VM Linux. Now I read through those PDF docs but it does not tell me whether those messages can be from a Linux system or not.

The messages were from Z/VM. Unless an operator is actually
interacting with Z/VM, there really are no visible msgs. to monitor on
a
console, like in OS. It's a different beast altogether.
My question is, is there a way to tell in the message that the z/vm is running Linux or not?
