sed to delete lines up to but not including the first match

hi, i have a text file that contains a series of newline characters at its top and then a collection of lines with alphanumeric text each of which begins with the letter "s".

i'd like to delete/remove all the newline characters using sed and leave everything else alone.

I came up with this, but it does not appear to modify my input file at all.

my input file is

###begin file
\n
\n
\n
\n
s
sadfa
swerw
sasdfa
####end file

this is my sed command
sed '/^s.*/,$ s/^s.*/&/' abc.txt > new.txt

here are my assumptions
/^s.*/ finds the first line that begins with s
$ specifies that the command should work to the end of the file
s/^s.*/&/ should basically do nothing with each line that begins with "s"
the file new.txt should contain the top lines that do NOT begin with "s"

obviously, this does not work, but I was wondering a) if there's a simpler way and b) what I'm doing wrong.
