Formatting SOLARIS hard drives

I need to format several used 140GB harddrives on SunFire V240's with Solaris 8. Is there a way to do a quick format? Using the FORMAT utility takes 30-35 min but then the verifying takes upwards of 24hrs to make its 4 passes. I am looking to find a way or command I can use to just do the format and not go thru the verifying.

what type of formatting are you doing? Do you mean creating a new file system on disks partitions?

My goal is to wipe everything clean as I dont know what the drives contained and start a fresh OS install.

simply repartition the disks and create new file systems on them which should not take time and then do the os installation
