i don't have graphic card.. look like my only bet is to do the stop N.
By the way, does all the RAM (i have 1GB single stick, siting all at slot 0). The ram probably not sun branded, does it even matter?
I am not exactly sure what went wrong but below is the series of tasks i did before the OBP having issue:
1) ok boot cdrom ; but after up to the stage /pcixxxx/xxxx/xxxx file and arg: , it sort of hang there, the rotating cursor no longer moving.
2) I then power cycle the machine and then try to do `boot cdrom` under ok prompt, still hang. I thought it maight be because previoud data wasn't wipe before I reinsall (or i simply not patient enough!),,so i power cycle again.
3) Then I can't get anything any more on my console serial output apart from the funny character and a few dots. So i switch into diagnose mode (using key switch)
4). The diagnositc seem to indicate sth about ram and cpu. Look like cpu has no response? I didn't copy down the full message... Then I power cycle again .
5) now even i swtich the key , can't even get back into diagnoistic mode :S
6) Besides, i notice that now whenever i press power button key, the machine immediately shutdown. It wasn't like this before. I suppose because the OBP must hang at the cpu or memory test stage (or before those stage).
==========================
I will try to plug in a type 6 keyboard and try the key break sequence of stop+N to reset nvram.

unplug all the power cables, take the RSC card off the box, and make sure all the RAM chips are fit in properly, the try to reset the NVRAM back to default:
power on the box, then type in: (need to do it fast!)
<Stop> N
to reset your NVRAM (hold the two key down for 5 or more secounds)
to see if you can get to the OBP (ok prompt).
Have a look at the hareware manual for your box in: /docs/prod /servers#h ic
http://docs.sun.com/app
if you have a graphic card for Sun box, try to install the card in and plug the keyboard and mouse direct to the 280R, and connect a monitor to the graphic card, to see if you can reset the NVRAM.
