Look with ps -ef|grep passwd or
fuser /etc/passwd
If you find the process kill and
try again.

i type :vipw on solaris
but error message: vipw: /etc/passwd file busy
no on in our company use the "/etc/passwd" file ,how to resolve it ,i reboot the server ,no use
