What does "ld.so.1: gcc: fatal: libiconv.so.2: open failed: No such file or directory" mean?
I have just installed the gcc-3.4.1-sol8-sparc-local
ld.so.1: gcc: fatal: libiconv.so.2: open failed: No such file or directory
What does this mean?
I am running: SunOS ncsulib450a 5.8 Generic_117350-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4

usually, that means that you missed some prerequisite package. if you read the text underneath the link to the package on sunfreeware.com, it specifically states that you need to install libiconv, which is also available as a package.
the error message, in its simplest form, means that a library that is required is not present on your system (or not in the library search path)
