Solaris 8 Install: Can't open disk label package

Hi,

I am trying to install solaris-8 from cd 1 of 2 of solaris 8, 02/04 (Loaded from sun website for sparc machine and burned using windows xp CD write).

1. In probe-ide output your cd drive is missing, please do these on ok prompt. please check the cables connected to cd drive.

ok setenv auto-boot? false
ok reset-all
ok probe-ide

and see if the cdrom device comes up here.

2. First you must double check:
your Solaris 8 CD is sparc or X86, you need sparc edition.

3. from the cd cretaing software choose "create CD from CD image".

if there is any filetype filter need to specify please change  *.cif to *.iso (which are the files you downloaded from Sun). Select the iso file.

4. your cd may  not be good Try another cd .

From Sun CD 2/02 , I am getting following error:

boot: cannot open kernel/sparcv9/unix
Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]:

cd2 mostly has software there so it would find kernel.

you can boot only with cd1.

also i did not see the probe-ide output correctly, it seems you have cdrom drive there so forgot the first step there and try other 3 steps.

I re-did the download and burn process using Roxio Easy CD creator at 4X speed and it worked.

I had original CD from SUN 2/02 that also did not work (might be bad CD).

I attached too many points here for this ... but would have spend a day. Still not sure what I did wrong with my previous burned CD from Nero and Windows Media CD Burner. Will find later time permitting.
