Question

Solaris 5.9 "Full or Half Duplex"

Asked by: gumball60

On Solaris 5.9, my interface is an "eri". I am trying to determine whether my station is running at full or half duplex. Whenever I type the command "ndd -get /dev/eri link_speed"; the error "couldn't push module 'eri, No such device or address". What is the best way to determine whether you are running at full or half duplex?

Check out this script to determine Solaris NIC speed and duplex settings

Cuz you're using the wrong ndd options.

# eri - found on newer Sun Blades and Sun Fires
#Add these lines to /etc/system
set eri:adv_100T4_cap = 0
set eri:adv_100fdx_cap = 1
set eri:adv_100hdx_cap = 0
set eri:adv_10fdx_cap = 0
set eri:adv_10hdx_cap = 0
set eri:adv_autoneg_cap = 0

Or:

# using a ndd startup script if you do not want to add to /etc/system
#!/bin/sh
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_100T4_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_100fdx_cap 1
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_100hdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_10fdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_10hdx_cap 0
ndd -set /dev/eri adv_autoneg_cap 0

So to check:

ndd -get /dev/eri adv_100T4_cap
ndd -get /dev/eri adv_100fdx_cap
ndd -get /dev/eri adv_100hdx_cap
ndd -get /dev/eri adv_10fdx_cap
ndd -get /dev/eri adv_10hdx_cap
ndd -get /dev/eri adv_autoneg_cap

PsiCop,

I took a look at that script.  I don't see any logic to handle the eri interfaces.  Am I missing something ?

by: PsiCopPosted on 2006-03-14 at 08:14:11ID: 16184801

eri NICs are caught in the last elsif branch, which handles all NIC types except ce, bgp, iprb and le.

My /etc/system configuration is fine. I am just trying to fine the quick and dirty way(command syntax) to find whether my SunBlade is currently running at "full or half duplex."

I was able to retrieve the desired information(full or half duplex) via "ndd -get /dev/eri /?". Thanks for your help.
