Hi experts,
I have a Solaris 8 box that since a board failure and replacement, is running the hme1 nic at half-duplex. As my switches run full-duplex, this is causing problems with collisions, as you can imagine. I have modified my /etc/system to disable half-duplex, but I cannot reboot this server as it's a mission-critical box. Therefore, I can also add the following commands on the fly so to speak.
I have 2 questions:
1. A sanity check - are my commands definitely correct? I want to disable half-duplex and auto on all hme devices (there's only 1) and force full-duplex.
2. If I enter these commands on the fly, will it affect my system momentarily? I run an application on Windows that connects to the database on the Solaris system using sockets, so I cannot lose connectivity AT ALL - not even for a second. So if these commands are going to freeze the NIC or drop it, I need to know. In which case I will do this at 3am rather than during the day.
Thanks
Jon
