How to ftp through a proxy from command line

I need an example of how to ftp from the command line from my sun 5.9 server through my proxy to an external ftp server.  My proxy does not require a username or password.

try ftp ipaddress proxy_port ie
ftp 12.168.1.1 5349

You will have to find out what port the ftp proxy is listening on

I dont think you example is complete, you only have 1 address .  Btw my proxy listens on port 1080,
