I Have a linux (FC3) and a Windose machine with cygwin-X and Putty. With no problems i can connect to the Linux server with cygwin with no problem login in and using the KDE/GDM GUI. But now i want to use a ssh tunnel. I start Putty, with ssh-tunnel (X-forward) enabled, and with cygwin X started in passive mode, in single window, i can with no problem start e.g. "xclock", which then appears in the cygwin-x window. But its anoying because the e.g. xclock dont have any window frames on it, so i can move it around.
So now i started "xwin" with the "-multiwindow" option (still in passive mode, i.e. no query), and now when i start e.g. "xclock" in the putty shell (using ssh tunnel), it dont open a window on the windows machine as expected! It seems like the Linux box think everything is ok, because no errormessages, and with "ps" i can see the "xclock" application is running. Also if i stop the "xwin" application on the windows machine, the Linux box (in the putty shell) replies that connection to X-host is lost, and the xclock application exits. So it seems like it somehow works from the Linux point of view, but the cygwin-x just wont open a window for the application (and no errormessages in the xwin log).
It is not enough to start xwin with the parameter "-multiwindows"?
As told the ssh tunnel work if only using single window mode. Should putty have a special setup for using multiple windows?
