I want to enable shutdown from kdm menu - but it has to shutdown remote workstation only - no server or other kdm session termination.
From within windowmanager (kde) the shutdown can left disabled.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI'd like kdm to provide users with button(menu item?) to execute custom(config/theme provided) script.
It has to run the script without user/pass(therefore it cannot be window manager)
Actually the setup and requirement is as follow
I have many think workstations running X and asking main server for X session. The server offers kdm login screen.
What I want, is to enable workstation shutdown from the kdm greeting screen.
I tried to fiddle with shutdown related kdm options, but it looks like it always shutdowns all current kdm sessions(via fifo command), and what's most important it shutdowns the kdm itself(no new logins).
If I tried disabling the all session shutting down, it complain that it cannot do that, and will not execute shutdown at all.
Any ideas?

Last I did similar setup long ago - Alpha server with OpenBSD netbooting 32bit SUN machines - very efficient use of resources in university. It was xdm then where one creates all of xdm dialogs by editing ui scripts. Loaded environment was kde 2.x menu with netscape (the best browser back then) - I have heard it evolved into kde3, but not much afterwards.
