vista SP2 using wrong default desktop

Asked by sk_harris in Windows Vista, X-Windows Window Manager

Tags: vista sp2 desktop default

After installing SP2 for Vista, a second desktop folder has appeared in my users folder.  vista is using this 2nd desktop folder as the default desktop -- most of the time.  When I download to desktop or save to desktop, I never know which desktop it will use.

I set up a 2nd user, with administration rights, and the desktop and other system icons are using normal icons, rather than the vista system icons.  I don't really care what the icons look like, unless it is an indication that the problem is going to happen again.

Is there anything better to do than just using a 2nd user, and copying docs, favs, desktop etc. over to it?
