Does anyone know whether Tripwire (commercial or Open Source) work on OpenVMS (8.3)? If not Tripwire then are there any Open Source alternatives for OpenVMS or any OS settings which would provide some level of change detection?

OpenVMS includes an accounting facility that can gather and report on just about anything under the sun, free and built-in to the O/S. From the OpenVMS prompt, type: HELP ACCOUNTING.

According to Tripwire you can use their Universal Device Kit (UDK) to support any system that can understand POSIX,
The thing with VMS is I don't think you can change critical system files, so if you're talking PCI DSS then FIM may not be a control that gets you anywhere.
Besides, if you enable a POSIX/SMB type interface on VMS, then you've immediately de-secured it.  Probably best leave that box unticked...
