I have been using Virtual Pc 2007 for about a year now, with three guest OSes installed : Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro, and Windows Vista Home Premium. My host OS is Vista Ultimate edition, with SP1 installed. Last night I decided to try VMware Player after discovering that it is supposedly capable of importing VPC 2007 data. (I don't want to buy one of the VMware products that can be used to generate the guest OSes, because I'm retired and always try to use free programs if possible.) So I have tried to import the virtual hard disks for both XP Home and Pro that I use under VPC 2007. Both fail after about 5 seconds with a screen that is not very informative: "An error occurred during conversion." Hopefully, some of you VMware gurus can help me track down the problem or suggest a workaround...
My pc is a Dell XPS 410, with 2 gigs of RAM, and 300 gigs of hard drive space. I usually run the VPC 2007 guest OSes from images stored on a separate partition. (I have partitioned my hard drive into 4 partitions.)
