Attach USB External Hard Drive to VMware ESX 3.5 Server

Hello,
Is it possible to attach an external USB hard drive to an VMware ESX 3.5 server? I have so files backed up to the hard drive and a couple of virtual servers backed up that I want to bring over to the ESX server. I do not want to run the servers from the hard drive, but just connect it to copy the files from the external drive to the hard drives on the ESX server.

I am new to ESX 3.5 server and do not have any experience with Linux. I am using FastSCP to transfer files from my windows desktop to the ESX server, but really need to get the files from my backup drive to it and want to avoid transferring over the network if I can. Any help is appreciated.
