The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Unable to use console in VMware VI from firefox

Asked by john-horne in VMware, Firefox Web Browser

Tags: , ,

Hello,

I am trying to access a Linux guest virtual machine via the VMware web access Infrastructure client (vmware virtualcenter 2).  For the most part this is fine, except that I cannot access the guest O/S console at all. I am using a 64-bit Fedora 9 workstation, with Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1. When I connect to the web interface it says my browser is not supported, but I can log in. From there I can select the VM I want, and the events/Alarms etc tabs all appear. However, if I click on the 'console' tab it just goes black, and says 'Your browser is not supported' at the top.

From the login page it says that the supported browsers include "Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or later for Linux". Well I'm using 3.0.1 so it certainly is beyond 1.5!

I have tried modifying the browser User-agent string, and that allowed me past the login page with no 'unsupported browser' message. However, the console still did not work - saying unsupported browser.

I have also tried this from a 32-bit openSuSE 10.2 system which uses Firefox 2.0.0.14. Same problem! Surely a version 2 of Firefox should be supported?

The mks plug-in is installed, and is version 2.1.0.0. The ESX server is (I think) version 3.5, but I have no access to the ESX server itself.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get the console working? Obviously without it I am somewhat limited in controlling the guest server.
