recovery of deleted files on Linux8.0

Hello Guys,

Will anybody help me out about, how can recover the files deleted on the linux8.0. Where actually, the files are shifted after deletion. If the solution is something like a command through shell, please ellaborate.

Also, i have setup a pop3 account through linux server, with this account i can send mail successfully but i can't receive any as it does not accept the password (tried resetting the password) with no success. Additionally, i had created the alias as well as the autoresponder for this account. On trial and error basis, i just deleted the account and recreated it. but now it is throwing the error as
'----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
"|responder.sh mailaccountname /usr/share/opcenter/responders/responder.705319"
(reason: critical OS file missing)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
/bin/sh: Permission denied
554 5.3.5 System file missing

Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!

First: There is no "linux 8.0". Linux is an OS kernel that has reached version 2.x (4 stable, 5 development and soon 6 stable). "The rest" is mainly GNU/FSF "stuff", that get bundled up with a kernel as a "distribution of linux", or distro for short. Many of these have reached and surpassed version 8.0, so... which one is it?

How did you delete the files? From a GUI filemanager? In that case, which? Many of these employ a "wastebasket" strategy of it's own.

If you really removed the file(s) with an unlink call (as through the "rm" command), you lose mostly. They are gone.
If one is lucky, and there is no, or netxt to no, activity on the filesystem, one could perhaps find and reconnect the individual blocks ... Worst case, by searching the raw device. If there is actvity, some blocks are bound to have been reused, and thus will be gone.

A really good (and expensive) harddrive crash recovery service might be able to glean the info from overwritten blocks, but that is probably not a feasible solution here... If the system has been "damaged" beyond repair, a quick reinstall might be least painful.

jvuz, most of your (and CrazyOnes:) suggestions are purely windows-centric, and thus do not apply.... The FinalData thing might be good though, as well as the data recovery links ... The last provided that the lost data is wrth the high price.

I've often noted that when the correct answer is "No" or "You lose", questions tend to go unattended.
We'll see though:-)

I will leave a recommendation in the Cleanup topic area that this question is:
