Invalid System Disk + SU0013 Error

I've resently installed a new HD, i installed Win98 and everything was working well for about a week, then i got a error reporting: cant detect primary HDD, i've checked the HD on a other computer and it is working fine.

I installed my old HD, it has no OS, it was detected succesfully. I started up, but then i got a error saying invalid system disk. I tried to boot from a Win98 cd, i succesfully started the Win98 install program and ran Scandisk without problems, but then i get a SU0013 error ( cant write to disk..). I booted again, and started the computer with cdr, i got to the msdospromt and tried to run the Win98 install program again, but it reported the same error. From the msdospromt i was able to read from and write to my HD.

I do not have a floppydrive, so i copied the files from a Win98 Bootdisk to a cd and transfered them to my HD.
I tried to run sys c:, but then i get an error saying that it cant specify default drive.

Does anyone know what to do?

I'll suggest the obvious - reset all the cables.

If I understand it, you can put the drive in another computer and it works.

You can put a different drive in this computer and it doesn't work.

So, its either a hardware issue with the one computer, or a cmos problem.

How old is the computer that your working with.  Any chance that the CMOS battery is old.  Your Cmos settings are probably correct because you've switched drives and that would have re-set the settings.

OR its an INT13 or a Fat32 problem.

And get some other cables as well.

I do suggest you swap the cables around so that the hard disk is on the secondary channel and the cdrom is on the primary channel.

The sympoms are those of a failing IDE chip on the motherboard.

I think HW. But forgot what is SU0013.
Try bios, ensure that you've got boot devices set right, and which IDEs are bootable etc. Maybe this is about DOS compatibility mode. Not needed.
TjoDalv How are you doing with this

Sorry for taking so long to respond to the answers. I've been real busy lately. I did get some useful tips from everyones answers, but i didnt manage to fix my old HD, it may have collapsed...I did however manage to install my new HD by changing its jumper to slave and register it as primary slave..I succesfully installed a os, and its now running fine..

I may also add that i had already tried changing cables, and ensured that it wasnt a dead cmos battery, before posting here..should have said so in my question..
I've also experienced similar problems with an other computer, and then managed to solve it by doing a clean format and then installing new system files..

Its a good answer, but it does not completly cower my problemes..
I just got my SU0013 and worked my way around it.

Here's what happened.  I have a dual boot, 98se and XP.  98se is the primary.  I wanted to reinstall the 98se so I booted from my 98se CD and started about that chore and after a short while was stopped with the SU0013, which I essentially read as the partition was going to boot and the operating system didn't want to be on a partition that wasn't going to boot.

OK, a couple weeks ago I had changed the bios settings from HD first to CD, then floppy, then HD.  After trying a few different things to get past the SU0013 unsuccessfully I went to the bios setup and changed the order back to HD first.

I am now past the SU0013 problem.
