Help setting a larger number of connections to a shared folder in WinXP pro
Hello!

I'm back with another question. A friend of mine has the following problem:
At work they have a network with more than 20 PC-s with Windows XP pro and a local server also with WinXP pro. The problem is that when Β he wants to share a floder he can share it to at most 10 users at a time(meaning only 10 PC-s can acces it at the same time). He found the option but cannot change it to a larger value..only smaller. He needs to know if there's a public key in the registry of WinXP pro where he can change that value to a larger one

Thanks

Like LucF already said, you'll need a server:

look here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;DE;q122920

And this is still true in WinXP Pro.

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 314882 Inbound Connections Limit in Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314882&Product=winxp

Since you did say WinXP, not NT or 2000.

If your friend is looking at a print server, this may help

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 314882 Troubleshooting Server Message Block Inbound Connection Limit in Windows Peer-to-Peer Workgroup

Though, since you mentioned a server, I think it is non-applicable.

Otherwise, I think LucF has your answe.

Current server version of windows are...

Windows 2000 server

There are lots of diferent versions, each one can support diferent number of usere, so choose carefuly because, they are pretty expensive....

gigix18, glad you solved your problem, but I gave the same solution as Francois IT, already in the second post. I don't want points, but make sure you read everything they post.

Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. For large systems, the operating system makes sure that different programs and users running at the same time do not interfere with each other. The operating system is also responsible for security, ensuring that unauthorized users do not access the system. Operating systems provide a software platform on top of which other programs, called application programs, can run.
