Change SBS ip to enable ICS

I have been asked to connect a small SBS network to DSL and use ICS but the network had been set up to use an external modem with an IP of 192.168.1.1. The SBS server and workstations (5) are all on that subnet.

I can change the workstations IP with no worries, but What kind of checklist should I have when changing the IP on the server. Is there a utility, or

is there an easier way like finding some off the shelf router that can provide internet access to the 192.168.1.x subnet?

When you enable Internet Connection Sharing
it authomatically changes the intenal nics ip address to 192.168.0.1
It also enables a 'hidden' dhcp server that you have no controller over.
the dhcp server allocates addresses to the internal clients.
the scope begins from 192.168.0.2.

So you do not need to worry about the 192.168.1.1 IP.
Just enable dhcp on the clients are you are ready to roll.

A network with a SBS over ICS? Not a good idea, actually. As suggested, a small router (or router + switch) box is the best way to do it.

By SBS...
do you mean Microsoft Small Business Server 2000?

Then if that is the case, forget ICS

Use Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000
comes with SBS

You can also set your internal address to the 192.168.0.0 subnet.
and configure DHCP.

The D-Link router is in place and has solved my problem. The SBS server domain is still on 192.168.1.x and the router is serving Internet at 192.168.1.1.

Our DSL is now able to serve two issolated domains with different subnets.

I should have thought of this... but that's why we exchange ideas.

thanks,
