TCP/IP, Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2, Dell

OK check this out, I am working on a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home on it.  After a long drown out phone call with Dell I fixed one problem only to find a new one. I installed Service pack 2 on this system and it wold not connect to the net via DSL. I get the message "Failed to Query TCP/IP at this connection" I also see error code 10047. I tried to add simple TCP/IP in add remove programs and it gets to a point ware it stops.  It always stops at the part that says it is trying to install the network monitering something rather it hangs there then says service did not start in time installation will continue but may not work untill service starts.  Not really sure. I am not in front of the computer. I tried to remove the network card (on board) and all drivers and reboot.  I reinstalled everything and still did not work. I need to know how to get the TCP/IP right again. I even deleted the tcpip tree in reg. and reinstalled it. NEED HELP!!!! I called Dell back and they said they do not recomend installing service pack 2. I uninstalled service pack two and this is ware the problem begains.

Might sound lame, but try turnning off your computer completely and then turn it back on.  I had similar problems, I removed adapters and rebooted, reinstalled but couldn't get it to work until i powered off / on the computer.

Reboot the computer, and DSL modem...

Then run the wonderful Network Setup Wizard... In 'My Computer' there is a link on the left that sets up a home or office network.. it may say "create a new connection"

Run to CompUSA (or Staples, or WalMart) and see if they have a cheap $20 network card you can throw in your comp to test if it is a hardware/driver issue.

Is there any way to remove and reload the TCP/IP protocol? I deleted the winsock and winsock2 per Dell and reloaded it and it made it work before the sp2 load. Should I do it again?

have you tried turning the XP2 firewall off? seems unlikely due to the error.
Can you set static IP settings and have those work locally on the lan?
Is ALL TCP/IP operations not working?

doswell YES, all functions are NOT working. I have uninstalled SP2 and the default firewall is off.

tatinohinojosa, it is not an ISP problem, this person has two other wireless computers that work fine.  this one is wired to a linksys router. the other two work fine. it is 100% a system problem. I get not network, or TCP/IP movement what so ever.

SheharyaarSaahil, I am not in front of the computer to run it, but I do have it downloaded to my USB key (a life saver) I will run it tonight when I get to the site.
ok then good luck :)
ok so you can't even setup a static IP and ping the router.   Nice mess! heh,

you can try highlighting TCP/IP in the connection list and click remove,
then try re-adding it (not sure if that was mentioned previously)

I am having the same problem with a customers computer.  Infact I signed up for these boards just because of it.  If anyone has found a solution I would be a happy panda.

Thanks
