Are there any firewall enabled on the client or the server?

ASKER

nope no firewalls
and the windows firewall is turned off
Where is the client getting its ip from? Does its dns point to the server.
is this happening on all clients or just one?
all
getting is ip from the server the same one giving this issue
and yes its dns dose point back to the server
andit happens on all clients
what do you get when you run nslookup?  Doe it give you the ip of the server?
Add an entry in your host file on the client.  This will test if it is a dns issue or not

Have you tried restarting DNS server services. Or "ipconfig /flushdns", or "netsh interface ip reset log.txt".Any log files speak of services failing? Is the server name anything unusual or long?
Thanks everyone for you help.  This issue has been resolved.  Resolution was to reinstall Service Pack 1.  Once this was reinstalled event viewer is clean and everythign works perfectily again.  I do apreciate everyones time in offering their suggestions.
