go to this site;  http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

and download HiJackthis, run the program and save a logfile.  Now copy the entire logfile text and post it to http://www.hijackthis.de/  (  copy & paste it  ) and hit analyze.  Then hit save when it is done and go into your browser window and copy the http address and paste it here so I can go to it from here to see it.

This may help too; http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Download Ewido, install, check for updates, then run the scan in safe mode...restart, press F8 before windows logo appears and select safe mode, open Ewido and run scan let it delete all it finds.  Disable system restore if it finds any trojans or anything else it calls SERIOUS.      http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5BLN%5D;310405
oops, here's where you'll find  Ewido; http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
>>>McShield.exe soaks up approx. 17-30%
if this is merely at start-up, it sounds normal because it's loading.
@maramom... i concur

cnapp,

are you running Ewido yet?
system idle means no process, so your start up, while loading at this point is only at 50%...very normal
if this continued after everything was loaded, I'd look into possibly finding a problem.

this is insanity! there is nothing wrong with this startup! AOL is a spyware zapper....no conflicts!
I stand corected about AOL, but there is nothing I REPEAT nothing wrong with this start-up!
O16 - DPF: {205FF73B-CA67-11D5-99DD-444553540013} - http://adserver.sharewareonline.com/adserver/Install.cab
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB Storage Toolbox] F:\Program Files\USBToolbox\Res.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: SpeedUpMyPC.lnk = F:\Program Files\LIUtilities\SpeedUpMyPC\speedupmypc.exe
Get rid of these two with HJT
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: FlashFXP Helper for Internet Explorer - {E5A1691B-D188-4419-AD02-90002030B8EE} - G:\FlashFXP\IEFlash.dll (file missing)

From what I just read online Speed Up My PC may not be all its cracked up to be, I suggest you uninstall it from add/remove programs and see if this problem goes away
If you do delete this entry from HJT
F:\Program Files\LIUtilities\SpeedUpMyPC\speedupmypc.exe

Additionally, I suggest you install MS Antispyware, it's free active protection;
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

run the scan too.

also open internet explorer, go to tools at the top of the page<internet options< delete temporary internet files, then go to settings under temporary internet files, change the size to like 100MB instead of the default 1190MB, hit apply then okay.  Next click on the advanced tab, scroll down and put a check mark next to Empty temporary internet files when browser closes, hit apply...then ok.
maramom,

You're probably right, if cnapp uses AOL then he should keep it.

If you notice I asked if he had AOL antivirus, and what I meant is he should only have one antivirus program.

Personally, I do not use AOL for security reasons. SO I gladly accept any constructive criticism about my input.

Thank you maramom.

im in the process of runnig ewido,my main prob is after everything is loaded up my com used to idle between 90-100%
I'm sorry for getting all riled up....
You are right, Tim, you shouldn't use more than one resident anti-virus program.
McAfee is already running, add aol and avg there could conflicts and slow downs!
Running one resident, and using the others as back up is ok.
I was frustrated because the start-up, as stated, is no problem...
but, as irwinpks stated if cnapp isn't using incd, disabling it will speed things up. (and other unnecessary start-ups as well)
Again, I apologize to all, everyone's input should be respected.
I guess I need a good night's sleep!
idling at 90-100% is good! it means the cpu is working at max 10%.

I guess i should have mentioned i switched to comcast high speed(recently),so i'll delete all aol, also i burn alot of movies so i think i need incd?Thank you all for your suggestions,im pretty slow with com,so i might respond slow

i used to idle at 90-100,but recenly ive monitored task mngr,McShield.exe & incd.exe each soaked up about 15%,left my idle jumping around60-75%
cnapp,

Many people consider AOL to be spyware.  So if you do not use it, get rid of all of it.  Hijackthis will help to get rid of anything left in your registry after you uninstall it.

Let me know if Ewido found anything serious.

About Speed Up My PC, if you like it, keep it, I was just concerned it could be part of the problem. That's why I suggested you get it out of the way for troubleshooting purposes.

IMHO, I do not think a program like that is necessary, but that's just me.

i will get rid of aol,& all components asap

the only thing i like about Speed Up My PC is it  (i think) frees up  ram, not that i need it i have 1.43g
Yeah, with that much RAM I do not think you should need it.

Do you have McAfee antivirus and AVG antivirus? I am confused.

You should only have one antivirus program running otherwise you can have problems.

maramom,
i  guess i dont use it,cause i dont mess with cd-rw so i'll delete that, i dont think im using quickbooks,so mcafee is gone also THANKS
When I asked about quickbooks, it was only to see if there was a conflict with McAfee (that can be fixed)

You should choose between McAfee and AVG, if your dumping AOL

(I agree with you Tim, AOL is right up there with Norton as far as oppressive and intrusive software is concerned)

I personally like McAfee
Alot of experts here swear by AVG
Avatar of cnapp

ASKER

tim,
yeah i had both Mcafee & AVG,but only 1 on startup, the other was never active,i guess it makes sense cause ive heard something about more than 1 burning software (on same drive) could interfere with eachother .i will delete Mcafee ,ewido is almost done so far 13 probs.
If you paid for McAfee and still have a subscription, you should keep it and get rid of AVG.
NOD32, IMHO is the best ... they have a free 30 day trial.

http://www.eset.com/download/download.htm

It uses the least amount of system resources. Keep it mind for the future.
Avatar of cnapp

ASKER

I think mcafee was free with aol, so i'll prob just dump it since it shows in taskbar
Sounds good.
only if you have multi-ple antivirus software..

should keep at least one running.

cool..that's great news....so if you figure that it is working now.. could you please grade according....consider that you can split points to all the provided valid info... (split point button on bottom of post).
If you want to optimize the way the system starts up, consider using microsoft's bootvis utility.
This tool can analyze your boot up process, see which processes are started, how much CPU they need and (re)order them so that your system's resources are used optimally.

This tool will also reveal the most demanding processes in a graphical presentation.
I only had you run Ewido to make sure you did not have a trojan or other serious malware.

I think AOL, mcshield.exe, and incd.exe were the problem.

Did you get rid of Speed Up MY PC?
cool.. thanks!
