VMWARE images in production

I'm looking for advise on running VM n production.

We're testing out VM for desktop use.  We used Acronis workstation to put a physical image inside VMWARE Workstation running on Windows XP  and have a couple of user's using the VM as their desktop.  Both of the test HOSTS have severly fragmented HDDS.  I'm wondering if we are going about using VM in the right way.

Thanks again Steve,
Does it make sense use VMWARE worskation on our machines to run the VMs on the workstations? Or should I be using the player?  One of the things that bothers me is that the user sees VMWARE workstation startup after he logs into the machine and he can shut the VM down.

Also, what do you think of VMs on Linux for Desktop virtual infrastucture - instead of on windows.  Are the same issues at play here as you described in answer to my server question?
I've never used the player, but it sounds a good idea.  And yes, the same issues are at play as in the server question.

Again, Linux or Windows as the host is your choice.  If I was only wanting the player to run VMs in, and wasn't too bothered about maintaining the host system - I'd probably go for a Linux host.  That's only a personal opinion though, you should test it for yourself.

Steve :)
