Epox EP-8KHA+ MB
Athlon XP 1600 stock
512meg DDR running on fast (seemed problem worsened, the faster i go)
ATI all in wonder 32 meg AGP
ATI IEEE1394 card
2 Ultra ata100 40gig maxtor drives
Yamaha ds-xg sound card
Epson 640 printer
HP scanjet 3300c scanner
Windows 2000 pro SP1,SP2,SP3
Orig BIOS - works FINE!
Everything works good, no conflicts, very happy with setup, and win2000. but i randomly get this error, after a COLD boot (happens every few days, sometimes every few weeks)
i get the Blue Screen with:
>STOP c0000218 "The registry cannot load the hive (file):
>
> \SystemRoot\System32\Confi
g\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate. It is corrupt,
> absent, or not writeable."
>
> This message pauses for a few seconds, then loops through reboot after
> reboot (with the same message) until you switch it off
This problem started 3 months after i put this Epox system together,
First, replaced the RAM, worked fine for a few weeks, started happening again
Second, Replaced entire MoBo combo, (board, processor, ram), few weeks later error came back
Third, have tried 4 brand new hard drives
I have seen similar problems, dealing with fast systems, not having enough time to write to the HD on shutdown
and "write cashing"
This system is ACPI, and in the device mgr., for the hard drives, the "write cashing feature" is grayed out,
Unchecked, and you cannot change it.
I don't know if this actually is the problem, the system does shut down very fast, 1 to 2
seconds, and i do not get the shutdown screen, it is now safe to shut your computer off.
I have seen people with the same problem, recommending to reboot, then push the power button on post, but then i got the
same error, this time at "\SystemRoot\System32\Conf
ig\SYSTEM"
(That seemed like a crappy workaround anyways)
I desperately need help, like i said, when it is working, i love it, it runs like a champ, very satisfied with everything. GOD bless
Drive Image, if it weren't for that, i don't know what i would do. I have to Image almost everyday, just in case it happens
Please if anyone has had similar problems, or if i could get some help from anyone, i would appreciate it so much!
Do not give me convaluted fixes either, or links to microsoft tech pages, i have seen them, unless you think it is extremely relavant!
PLEASE UNDERSTAND, i may not be able to reply very fast if it happens again, (i regularly loose email, if i did not make a current image) it may take me some time to get things
"back to normal" so please be patient!
I am so desperate for some type of resolution to this problem, i am offering 500 points to anyone who can help, id give all 6000 points that i have, if i could!
