The WIndows 2000 CD is bootable too ... no need for floppy. But XP is better for mobile computers, why do you have to uninstall it?

Sound Slike you have a laptop that really can handle the hog that XP is on resources. Just boot up with the Windows 2000 CD, format the drive during setup and install 2000. You could also install dual boot since W2K systems files are in systemroot\winnt and XP's are in systemroot\windows.

heya,

sorry for responding so late.  i tried the suggestion from pnawathe...but somehow xp keeps booting up.  went to the bios and i tried to tell the computer to boot first from the cd but no avail =(

really sucks having no floppy drive.  will try to find one of those usb removable disk drives.  once i find one...all I need to do is to move the files from my setup disks onto the usb drive, leave it in there and then reboot?

thanks for all your help in this matter.

heya....will have to wait until I get back home to try those new suggestions (printed them out for me to take home) but I was curious as to whether if I buy an external Floppy drive with an USB interface, should the labtop be able to read the external floppy drive while in "boot" sequence or will an external floopy drive only work once the OS has been fully booted up?

thanks

ugh..didn't think it would be that difficult.  ok..computer won for the time being.  will tackle it again sometime in the future.  thanks for all your help.  will close out this question...
Hello brdrok;

You can be an External Floppy Drive, and plug it up, and yes the System will recognize it from boot.

Also.
I messed up on the information that I gave you above.

If you have it set to boot from CDRom Support.
Then once the system starts to load.
Start hitting in sequense.
The [SpaceBar & Enter] Keys.
Do not do it fast, as it will lock up your keyboard.

Some system will not show you the option of booting from a CDRom
As they load to quickly, and you never see the Option apear on screen.
So hitting your [SpaceBar] and (or) [Enter] key during the boot up process.
It will detect and launch the CDRom to boot from it.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.
