asked on
unwanted password window
I am running W-95 with IE-5. Several weeks after installing IE-5, when logging on to my ISP is complete, Windows then asks for a password. I don't have to enter one, as I am the only user, and have never entered one. I either X it out or hit cancel, and it goes away. It's just an unnecessary thing I have to do before I can access my computer. I have posted this same question on B/Bs, and have gotten the answer to check in "Passwords" and make sure it is set on "Windows Logon." That is the only option in that window. I couldn't set it on anything else if I wanted to. I've also been told to use the arrow keys and move the cursor to cancel, and then hit enter. Makes no difference. I know there is a way to get rid of this nuisance, because I operated this computer for 3 1/2 years without that ever coming up. Can someone please help me?
Strange...
I don't like passwords either, and in w95 it would normally suffice to hit Enter with a blank password space during installation. You can set a username if you like, but the login box will not reappear if password is empty. This is no solution to you, but I would like to hear more of this.

The other thing I would check, is under Control Panel/Network.
Double click Client for Microsoft Networks and make sure the Log on to Windows NT domain is unchecked.

Laser1: Thanks a bunch. I used your "one other way" suggestion first, since I don't like to mess with the Registry if I don't have to. It worked like a charm! Thanks again. I have been trying to get rid of that pesky box for several months now. baronred
Great! Good job Laser1! Dave
Try to add the registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar
Autologon is binary value.
Hope this useful.
