Can't use windows update

Windows update worked a week ago.  Now I get the error:
A Runtime Error Has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?

Line 689
Error:  Subscript out of range.  'm_CriticalUpdateSectionIndex'

The error comes up when I click on Windows Update and select product updates.  When it looks for installed updates, this error comes up.  Closing this error box brings up a second error box.

A Runtime Error Has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?
Line 321
Error:  Object doesn't support this properly or method: 'colShowAllDesc.Length'

Help.

Click the Start button goto Programs then goto Accessories then goto System Tools then click on Disk Cleanup. Change the Settings and be sure to include Downloaded Programs.
After running this program try doing the Windows Updates. This should work.
open internet explorer, click on TOOLS then on INTERNET OPTIONS click on the settings tab in the TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES FRAME click on the DELETE FILES and then click ok.

you may also want to clear your history.

then goto the ms win update site and try it again, it should work then.

kaldar, Inspect if you've enabled the debugging manager program both in startup and also within the IE.
(1) Go to start- run, type msconfig and OK to open the system configuration utility. At the startup, unchecked the box for program
[ ] Machine Debug Manager   C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MDM.EXE

(2) Go to the Internet Options in Control Panel, Advanced, unchecked the box for
    [ ] Disable script debugging.

Restart the computer and Online again to WindowUpdate site.

See if it solved. Let me know how you made it out.       pslh

You da Man!  Now my question is "Why did this work?"

I had 917 files in this directory.  Seems like this should be a cleanup option...

Thanks again.
Glad I could help
you had a record of a corrupeted update, and that had to be deleted for the update to work again
