connecting 2 computers via modem
hi,
i am new user of this site.can anyone tell me if i can connect 2 computers using modems which are connected to each of the computers.i.e. i have a pc running win98se/winme and my friend has the same configuration.we connect to isp using our modems(56k).we play games like midtown madness via modem.All i wanted to know is can i have a direct connection to his pc through my modem..by dialing into his modem...or somehow??so that i can share files between the two computers(i dont want to make a serial connection as he lives too far)i can use RAS like subseven and so...but i dont want it that way...help!!

There is a program call NetMeeting that comes with Windows 98.; You may need to install it, you might not. This program allows you to share files, communicate through whiteboards, etc.... The setup is fairly intuitive and there is a wizard which will walk you through the install. After that, all you need to know is each others IP address.-
if u use terminal software, u can bypass your isp and can connect without him. you'll be limited to file transfers though.
or try setting up remote access server on one of the machine and connect as if u connect to isp.
