How to install a full version of windows 98, if you already have another version of windows?

I am running windows 95 on an older computer and want to upgrade it to Windows 98. I have Windows 98 FULL version. Every time I try to install, it says I need the UPGRADE not the FULL version. How do I fix this so it will install anyway?

althompson,

Just a quick added comment about boot disks...you can get nearly any of them here:

http://www.bootdisk.com/

I credit the website to someone (and for the life of me, their name slips my mind at this moment) on this website that gave me that site.

Hope this helps!

When it asks for the directory to install into, make sure it is using "windows" and not "windows.0001" or something like that. If it does then you need to change it.

As an added note, you can rename the file "win.com" to "win.old" from inside windows, but once you rename it then shut down, it will not boot up again into Windows (unless you change the win.old back to win.com) until you install Win98
