How to limit memory seen by Win 98
Contrary to some of the posts here, I remeber MS limiting the memory for Windows 98 to 512MB. I have a test computer with 1GB, and Win98 is acting wierd. The DOS prompt failes with an error message stating "There is not enough memory available to run this program". I've looked in the BIOS for a way to limit the memory (can't see one and opening the case everytime I switch OS is a pain). Does anyone know a way to limit the memory seen by Win 98. I recall seeing something about this in Win 2k, but don't know where and if the feature even exists in Win98.
How is 1 GB setup there as one module or couple of 512 mb modules .. Why dont you remove one RAM module and check to see if windows would work fine .. easy way is it not ?

I tried the VCache fix above and it worked. But I have seen, on Microsoft I'm sure, that the official limit was (is) 512MB. Did MS change their mind. Has anyone seen an official MS article anywhere on this. I need a definitive answer for a client, not just tricks.
Thanks! Points given in a bit, shared with an answer to this question if forthcoming.

Glad it worked.

AFAIK, it was 1.5GB, with a roll back to 1GB as it says above.
See here:
Computer May Reboot Continuously with More Than 1.5 GB of RAM

And quoting:
CAUSE
Windows Me and Windows 98 are not designed to handle more than 1 GB of RAM. More than 1 GB can lead to potential system instability.
