Time & Date of shut down remains when the PC is booted up again.

When I restart this PC the time and date of when it was shut off remains. For example: If I shut it down at 8/5/2004 8:00pm and leave it off for days, when I restart the computer the time and date will be 8/5/2004 8:00pm.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well as far as loosing time, the only time it looses is when unplugged to being plugged back in. I would think a bad battery would cause CMOS to revert to default(i.e. Jan/1/1986 12:AM) or slowly loose time. As long as the computer is plugged in the time/date remains accurate, but when unplugged, the time/date seems to be paused some how in CMOS.
have you tried simply flashing the BIOS?
Are you against the simple (and likely) fix of changing the battery?  True, this is not the usual symptmo of a dying battery, but everything will not always perform as we expect it to.
i have a PC with similar behaviour : if i shut off all power to the pc, it starts loosing time, but not other settings; however, if i leave the motherboard under  power and simply do a soft power off, all is ok. I tracked this down to a malfunction of the motherboard.

Thanks all for responding! PeteLong, while using the shotgun method, :D got it first. It apparently was a CMOS battery issue. I changed the battery and everything is fine.
The shotgun method?
