microsoft C++ runtime error

hi,
I have got this pmessage using an wizard installer.

microsoft visual C++ runtime library
Runtime error

This message did not appear on all of the Pc.
First I think that I don't have the good runtime library but I'am not sure that the problem is comming from. May be a directory or a nul file that I must delete ? but whixh one ?

Do you have an idea for this problem
Thank you very much
Best regards

I think a few more details are necessary in order to give you an intelligent answer.  :-)

For instance, what are you installing?
What OS version is running on the target machine(s)?
(NT Workstation 4.0?  NT Server 3.5?  etc.)
Is the target system "clean" (brand new installation of the OS), or has it been in daily use for a long/short while?

How far along in the installation do you get before you get the error?  Did you accept all the defaults along the way, or have you made some custom choices?

And, was this the ENTIRETY of the error message, or were there other details?

* * *

Based on what little information you've given above, I am curious to know why you've drawn the conclusion that there is a directory you need to delete?

Hope this helps!

Hi,
Sorry for forgotten the context software :
- 1 - Pc on WIn NT workstation SP6.
- 2 - It's not a new installation of the OS. This OS coming from our master.
- 3 - I don't know all of the custom choice because I was not in this compagny before.
- 4 - If I made a new install of Win Workstation SP6 CDs, this run normaly.
- 5 - The problem appear only with the install of the Viewnow software, soft of the Netmanage compagny. They don't have any answer on this problem.
- 6 - I can install other software  without any problem.
- 7 - I have check the C++ DLL and made somme test with other mvscrt.dll
- 8 - I have clean the registry (360 entry deleted) and try again after reboot.
- 9 - I had suppress all of the old entry of this software.

Thank you for your help

Thanks for the additional information; it's helpful.

I think, based on the info you've given thus far, that you probably have either:
  * a version conflict between two or more DLLs or OCXes
  * a corrupted DLL / OCX / component file

But that is just a WAG, not even a SWAG.

Can you supply a little more information?

Exactly what steps do you take when installing the ViewNow software?  What does it ask, and what do you answer?  And exactly what does it say when you get the runtime error?  These details hold the secret as to what is going wrong.

best regards,

The problem appear just at the beginning of the installation.

First the autorun goes on, then I chose installationof ViewNow
by clicking on the line or buton on the menu, then the message
appear immediatly. Before it's appear, the installation prpgram make a directory named "tileda"+mty and copy some files in. Then the message appear with no choice more.

Thank you

Okay... and you say that the EXACT text of the error dialog is:
   "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
   "Runtime error"

Is this correct?  Nothing more than that?

If I have understood you correctly, you said that the problem does not happen when SP6 is installed.  If so, then it probably *is* a version conflict, but the error message isn't letting you know which file(s) are involved.

Ensure each machine has been brought current to SP6 before trying the installation of the ViewNow software.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
Sorry for my later answer but I had some problem to read your last answer.
So, in both case, the Pc have the SP6 installed. One have problem, the other not.
The exact message is (in a small windows):
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\ nm.t\tsetup.exe
abnormal program termination

I think that it's a DLL problem, but I'm not sure, and I don't know which DLL file name is concern.
Thanks a lot
Henry
Hi Proton:

Sorry that I haven't responded in a while.  I've had an unanticipated situation and have been away until a couple of days ago.

Were you ever able to find a workaround to this problem?

I've gone back and looked at the discussion thread, and unfortunately I'm afraid there just isn't enough information for me to provide you with a reasonable or intelligent answer.  I'm very sorry that I've reached a dead end.

You are probably quite right that there is a DLL conflict, or a version conflict, or a corrupted DLL.  If you have a hex viewer utility, you can open the .EXE and scan for names of DLL files, but that only tells you which ones it loads by name, which may not get you very far.

If the problem hasn't already been resolved, you will probably have to rely on NetManage to provide support.  It *may* help for you to copy the entire text of the above discussion into an e-mail and send it to their technical support, along with your question.

Hi,
First, thank for every thing.
You speak abouot Hexviewer utility, do you know where I can find one (prefered for a freeware). You right, if I can the .exe and fond the DLL name. I think that it will be about 5 or 10 .DLL to check, so it's nit impossible.

Tahnks again
