Promoting a BDC to a PDC works, but now BDC's can't see it
Hi,
I promoted a BDC to a PDC. As soon as the promotion takes place though, my BDC's server managers give me the message "Cannot find the Primary DC for this Domain".
Server manager on my newly promoted PDC correctly displays itself and the other BDCs.
Network Neighborhood on the new PDC only shows itself as a machine on the network.
When I demote and go back to my previous PDC all works correctly again.
Is this a wins error?
my pdc is named mrowserver-1 is there a problem with the name being to long or the dash?
I can ping by ip and by name...
Help?

delete wins? or delete the ip address for that server from the wins list of servers?
Check the LMHOSTS file on each BDC and make sure there are no entries for the old PDC.
I meant delete the whole wins services then add it again, if you have any static records, please take a note of it before you delete it so you can add them again

LMHOSTS files have no entries..
The longest I've waited is about an hour for the changes to take place. Maybe I'll wait a little longer. I cannot add a user on the BDC because it says it cannot find the PDC.
I haven't tried deleting wins services yet, trying more conservative options first :).. Looks like I'll have to give it a try though.

WOOT! It's working!
On the User Manager when it said it could not find the PDC it asked if I wanted to try another domain, so I said yes
and reselected the same domain and everything started working.
Last night I did add some wins entries for the new server to the existing bdc's, so I actually think it was a WINS issue.

from the BDC's now if I uncheck show domain members, all the servers show up but it lists my new PDC as still a backup, and no other PDC's are shown.
It's like the change took place but the BDCs never were informed of the new PDC.
