What is EVENT ID: 1003?

I have looking on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Event id: 1003 but I can not find anything!    My computer keeps restarting by itself and when I check "Event Viewer", it shows me some paramaters and memory locations.    Does anyone know what causes "Event ID: 1003"?

Thanks

Event ID: 1003
Detail Text: The object length of an object returned by Extensible Counter DLL (DLL name) for the (service name) service was not correct. The sum of the object lengths returned did not match the size of the buffer returned. Performance data returned by counter DLL will not be returned in Perf Data Block. Count of objects returned is data DWORD 0.

Interpretation: After the collect function returns, perflib validates the TotalByteLength members of each PERF_OBJECT_TYPE structure returned by the performance extension. This error event means there is problem with one or more TotalByteLength values in the PERF_OBJECT_TYPE structures.

Expertise: Developer of named extensible counter DLL

first uncheck the automatically restart on the advanced tab of system properties
then when it happens you will get a blue screeen with some numbers, these will help troubleshoot the issue easier

See here:

and to stop your computer from restarting - Go to start | run   and type   sysdm.cpl
Go to advanced tab
startup and recovery settings
uncheck 'automatically restart'
make sure that 'write an event to the system log' is checked.

you might have to boot up in safe mode - f8 at start up (after memory run)

Hey guys I tried those links, but no help.   I tried the suggestions at those links but still get error.   Any other ideas.   Also, what other kind of info would I look for on the blue screen of death?
I'll bet it is a problem w/ your paging file. I just had that problem when I upped my memory.  Try this:

1. Go to "my computer" | tools  | folder options  | view
tick 'show hidden files and folders'
2. Now go to start |  settings  |  control panel |  system
advanced tab | performance settings | advanced | virtual memory  |  change
3. Set it to none then reboot
4. Do a search for 'pagefile.sys' in the system drive root
folder.
5. Now go back into the virtual memory settungs and return the virtual memory to normal, and reboot.

shekerra, i tried that before and the error came back, not as much though.
How much memory do you have - make the page file min/max 1.5x's the size and place on a different partition if you have one.
I have 512mb Ram.   I don't have a different partition, but I do have another hard drive.  Would that work?
that shouldn't make a difference
Just try setting min\max paging file to 768 (same HDD is fine)

Also this problem is known with ATI video card drivers and VIA. These will cause the reboot issue.

Try updating the drivers.
I think you're right cstevens27, I haven't received the error for a while now.   It must have been one of the programs I uninstalled that must have been in the startup.

Thanks for the help.
