Files Unsorted and Missing Status Bar in Explorer

I am running Windows XP, and I noticed that every time that I opene Windows Explorer the status bar is missing. Even if I select the View / Status Bar menu option, the next time I open Windows Explorer the staus bar is not visible and I have to select View / Status Bar again.

I have also noticed that when I select the Open option in any program, in the file selection window that pops up the files are always either sorted backwards (Z-A), or not sorted at all. If I right-click the box and select Arrange Icons By Name, the files are sorted, but the next time I try to open a file the same thing happens again.

How can I fix these two problems permanently?

Arrange explorer the way you want it.

Then go to Tool->Folder Options.

Click on te View tab and click the 'Like Current Folder' button.

From this point all directories will open in the same way.

It's possible that if you also click View and put a check mark next to Status bar before you do the Ctrl + click the X button, it will save that too.
Also make sure the option "Remember each folder's view settings" IS checked in folder options.  This might also be helpful.

When you try MrWhipster and LeeTutor's suggestions make sure you have only one window open at the time, close all other windows, including internet explorer.
