Windows Desktop
I keep getting popup messages every time I click on the start menu telling me that there is not enough room to display all the icons.  I also get a popup (baloon) that tells me when I've installed a new program.

These are annoying to me but I can't find any way to turn them off.  I've unchecked the recent documents option and checked clear the list but I still have to delete each one manually.

Is there anyway to get rid of these annoyances?

Remove Balloon Tips
===================
1.     Click Start and then click the Run command. Type Regedt32 in the Open text box and click OK.
2.     Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
3.     Click the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value.
4.     Rename the new value to EnableBalloonTips and press [ENTER].
5.     The default value is 0 and you want to leave it that way. Close the Registry editor and restart the computer.
No more Balloon tips!

cheers
Pete

I reduced the number to 0 (already had the "Highlight newly installed programs" box unchecked) and it appears to have solved the problem.  I didn't want a list of recently opened programs anyway.  I did the regedt32 thing prior to that and the balloon still popped up.
Maybe it will disable other balloon messages which is OK by me.  Thanks for the help.

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
