Windows\CSC filling up....

Using XPSP1 on a network connected desktop.
Just yesterday, the above directory starts filling up with files as soon as I log on to the network. The hard drive doesn't stop.
The first I knew about it was a message ("You are running low on Disk Space") appears. Do a search and find that the CSC directory is rapidly adding files.

Can delete all of the files but one, 00000001, which it says is a system file and is using a process.

Boot to Safe Mode and can delete all. Reboot to normal XP, same problem, CSC is created and starts filling up.
Files seem to be a variety of XL files, Word and Outlook, but they are just numbered as 000034f etc, not actual file names. Double-click and they open OK. BUT they are NOT my files!!

Ran Virus check, OK. Trojan Check, OK.

Any ideas???

Thanks,

Windows XP uses ridiculous amounts of disk space in C:\WINDOWS
Say, your C:\WINDOWS folder takes up over 10GB in a fairly clean installation of Windows XP.

Chances are, you are using the "Offline Folders" feature. This copies data to a local cache under C:\WINDOWS\CSC. The directory appears very well hidden, so you may have to type C:\WINDOWS\CSC in the Windows Explorer Address bar.

Open "My Computer" and select Tools/Folder Options from the menu.

By default, Windows stores its Offline Files cache in C:\Winnt\CSC (or C:\Windows\CSC for Windows XP).

You can move this folder to another disk, if you need too, by using the cachemov.exe utility from the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit.

Simply run cachemov.exe on a specific workstation and select 'Select the Destination Volume'. You can then select a drive. You must make sure that the cchmvmsg.dll file is the same directory as cachemov.exe is running from.
