Problem modifying Network Properties
Hi,
Using Windowx XP Home Ed, under Local Area Connection Properties if I try to Install a new Client, Service or Protocol, when I press the Add button I get the message Network Connections (Pop Up Windows title): Could not add the requested component. The error is: The specified path does not contain any applicable device INFs.
I have a VAIO Desktop that brougth Windows XP Home preinstalled, but do not know if after six months of use some Control Panel/wherevere path pointer(s) was/were deleted or corrupted.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
aaml

Have you tried running "sfc /scannow" (without the quotation marks" from START / RUN ? You'll need your XP installation CD.
This should repair any corrupted files.

Try running Check Disk and RegClean:
chkdsk c: /r
RegClean 4.1a

You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling your NIC.

DevicePath has a very long string with a lot of %DeviceDrive% and one "%SystemRoot%\inf", although at a command prom if I execute echo %SystemRoot% and I get c:\windows and echo %DeviceDrive% I get c: did not work.
Then I change %XXX% by c: and c:\windows and worked, so the problem is the variable inside regedit.
My problem now is solved but do not know why did not work %xx% variables

You should type %SystemRoot%\inf and not %SystemRoot%.
Glad to hear it worked.
