DCOM error
Hello, all. I am having problems when I log into Windows. My computer freezes right after I log in and I have to reboot 3 or 4 times before it is back to normal. WHen I check the event viewer here's the problem it describes:
DCOM got error: "The service database is locked." attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server: {BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-0 0805FC1270 E}
I know that I had a previous conflict with my Logitech device, but it is disabled and it took care of one problem, but this problem still remains.
I have also read a previous post similar to this question, but the follow-up posts do not help me here. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Yes, I've seen the same question, but I do not know how to even get to the Reged32 Editor to edit the key as it says. If you can let me know, then I'll experiment with it. Thanks!

Hello, again. I checked my MSCONFIG and I do not have ZoneAlarm listed in either my services or startup, and I know that I did not physically install any type of firewall in my system. The closest service I have listed in the config is Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). Should I go ahead with the registry editor? Thanks.
I think it should be all right to try it, assuming you take the necessary steps to back up any changes you make...

OK, I have utilized the regedt32 editor and I have gone to hkey_local_machine/System/ CurrentCon trolSet/se rvices and I have found the Netman subkey. Here is what is listed in that folder:
NAME TYPE DATA
(Default) REG_SZ (Value Not Set)
DependOnService REG_MULTI_SZ RpcSs
Description REG_SZ Manages objects in the Network and Dial-Up...
Display Name REG_SZ Network Connections
ErrorControl REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
ImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\svch ost.exe -k netsvcs
ObjectName REG_SZ LocalSystem
Start REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
Type REG_DWORD 0x00000120 (288)
Which one should I edit? I'm confused because the answer in the other post says to add a key that seems to already be here. Suggestions?

Have you tried using msconfig to disable your startup items? Maybe one of your programs is causing this?
Also, does this happen if you start windows in safe mode?

Yes, I have thought about using msconfig, but there are just too many items in the "Services" and "Startup" tab and I don't have too much time to go through each one. Would I just be able to just disable the items that have automatically been stopped by Windows?
Just disable all your startup items at once and see if that helps anything. If it does, go through them one by one.
ASKER
OK, I think I have pinpointed the problem. I installed a Creative AUdigy Sound card a while back. I just now disabled the startup items and enabled them one-by-one until one gave me a problem as recorded in the Event Viewer. It was this one, as shown on my msconfig:
Startup Item Command Location
RcMan C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource \Remotecon trol\RcMan .exe SOFTWARE\MS\Win
Now that I might know what the problem is, the question is if I keep it disabled, will it diminish the performance of my sound card in any way? And, how can I get my start up back to a Normal Startup instead of a Selective startup with that item disabled? Thanks for the help so far, guys!

I found this about that program:

rcman.exe
-------------
Rcman.exe is a product of Creative Technology Ltd.
It's remote center supplied with Audigy card.
Not required. Try to stop its auto start if it hangs.
You can remove the startup entry from the registry. Go to start->run, type "regedit" and say ok. In the window that appears find the entry in the location given by msconfig. It should be in one of these two registry keys. Just make sure you backup the Run registry key before you change this. You can do this by going to the registry key, right-click it, and click Export. Now save your backup file.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR E\Microsof t\Windows\ CurrentVer sion\Run

Thanks, to both of you, you really helped me out. You also saved me how many hundreds of dollars for a technician to tell me the same thing. Thanks again!
