Win XP installation problem, corrupt .sif file [SourceDisksFiles] "SP1.cab"
I decided to repartition to ntfs the hard drive after learning that my brother's friend allowed it to be a fat16 partition on a 40gb hd, thus only allowing 2gb to be used.  The hard drive is now repartitioned, all my computer needs is an OS.
I have a copy of win xp. I can't install it onto my computer. I changed the BIOS order to let the CD-ROM open it, but that doesn't help. I have resorted to using the 6 boot up floppies downloaded from Microfsoft just to get the CD going, but in the middle of setup. However, I get the problem
"The following value in the .sif file used by setup is corruptive or missing: Value 0 on the line in the section [SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP1.cab"
I've tried replacing the txtsetup.sif file from the i386 folder on the Win XP cd to the first disk of the bootup floppies, but then i get another error saying that a .sys file cannot be found when the 4th setup disk is in the floppy drive.
What else can I do?

This question is a follow-up to "sarbed"'s question posed 7/22/03 at 1:54PM.
I am experiencing the same error that "sarbed" experienced in attempting to install Windows XP. To recap the problem, as I go through the 6-disk installation process, after I select the file system, I get the error, quote: The following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is corrupted or missing: Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP1.cab" Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.
As "sarbed" did, I tried replacing the txt.setup.si_ file from setup disk #1 with the txtsetup.si_ from my Windows XP CD, and received an error based upon a .sys file on the fourth disk of my next setup attempt.
I have considered the solution proposed by this site, and am certain that it does not apply to my situation. My computer is a blank, slim laptop that does not have a built-in CD-rom drive. Thus, I have need to install enough of Windows XP to enable the computer to access a CD drive attached to it by a USB cable.
Can anybody help me?

My situation is identical to that of jlevy25 in that I too get an error message on the fourth disk of the setup process.  Not sure what else to try.  Any suggestions anyone?

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
