How to always get a maximised window in Explorer and Internet Explorer
I am using Windows XP Home Edition.
When I open a program or a window in Explorer or Internet Explorer it invariably opens as a partial window. I then click on the maximise icon to fill the screen.
Next time I use the same application (same windows session) it will open maximised.
However after any reboot or starting another windows session the following day the application again only opens as a small window and I have to maximise to fill the screen.
This never used to happen under Win95 or Win98.
Is there a hidden setting or a Registry tweak that I can use such that XP will always open windows in a maximised state.
Many thanks

For IE:
1. Open a link.
2. Don't use the maximize button.
3. Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
4. Close all other IE windows.
5. Close the stretched window last.
However, the above procedure is not equivalent to SHOWMAXIMIZED API call. Best option is to use "IE New Window maximizer"

(Uses Windows API calls and automatically maximizes every browser window you open)

Many thanks to war1 for the modification to the registry. This seems to have solved the problem for Internet Explorer but I still have the same problem when I open folders.
They always open as a partial window. I then click on the maximise icon or drag the window to full size to fill the screen. Next time I use the same application (same windows session) it will open maximised.
However after any reboot or starting another windows session the following day the folder again only opens as a small window and I have to maximise to fill the screen.
Is there a registry key for sizing folders ?
Best wishes
Doug

Hi there War1
I followed your advice to hold down CTRL when closing folders and guess what ? It works.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the system remembered the folder settings next time I used the folder and also remembered the settings after a shutdown and reboot.
I had to open each folder individually and close it with CTRL so that all folders acted the same. For my futher education/benefit, is there a global method (via the registry or some other tweak) to achieve this setting ?
Many thanks

If you are clicking from a shortcut, open the Properties of the shortcut and select Maximized.
Otherwise, click on a link to open a second browser window. Drag the corners of the new window to full screen. Close the first browser first, second browser second.
Or
Modify the registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\In
"yes".
