Unwanted system32 folder opening on startup

Running windows XP.  On startup the windows/system32 folder opens. What do I do to stop this?  The computer is a new Dell.

Haven't seen that before, but check your startup folder to make sure there isn't a shortcut to that folder
could also be a virus.   Do you have anti-virus software installed, and if so have you recently scanned?

Can find nothing in the startup folder, and yes I have run virus software and scan regularly.
Check the registry.

Start->Run->regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

This lists everything that will run at startup, not all of which will show up in the startup folder.
Nothing out there either.

There is a similar problem that occurs in WinNT and Win2000 which is described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;170086
System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows

look for a null, incomplete, or damaged key in the Registry in this area:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and if found, delete it.  And there are other cases mentioned in the article that may apply also.
If leetutor's suggestion link doesnot work , check to see if you had recently removed any virus .. If you had removed any virus let us know which virus or search for removal tool of that virus going to norton or mcafee and use that removal tool to remove
the left over registry entries of the virus

That's the sound care I have and tip 260 worked like a charm.  Excellent.  Thank you.
Most welcome, mlcaldwell.
I had the same problem with the same system configuration. Tip 260 worked for me also. Thanks for the assistance.
