Renaming a folder
I'm running WinXP and I have a folder with my name called "C:\George's Documents" which I would like to rename, since I am giving the computer to someone else. However, when I right click on this folder, there is no rename command. I believe your name gets inserted in this folder when you first startup and register WinXP. Is there an easy way to rename this folder? I'm moderately computer savvy and am willing to use regedit if it doesn't involve a lot of work.

boot into safemode, login as ADMINISTRATOR, and then renmae the folder.
You are talking about changing Special Folder names.
In the registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software \Microsoft \WIndows|C urrentVers ion\Explor er\User Shell Folders is where these special folders are named:
Example: My Documents
Value=Personal
Data = %USERPROFILE%\My Documents
a.k.a: ghaselbe's Documents
In the registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
Example: My Documents
Value=Personal
Data = %USERPROFILE%\My Documents
a.k.a: ghaselbe's Documents
You realize that when a new user logs onto the system they too will have files and folders named after the user name they select when logging on?
The registry key I posted above is unique for the account currently logged on, hence, HKEY_CURRENT_USER!
This profile is not accessible to another user when they log on.
While logged on with the username=George if you go to the command prompt: START | RUN | CMD and enter the command: SET you'll get a list of system variables. You should see %USERPROFILE% = c:\Documents and Settings\George
So.in my round about way..here is what you can do:
Right click on "My Computer"
Select Properties
Select Advanced Tab
Click Settings in the User Profile panel
Click on George's Profile
Click the Copy To button
Copy it to c:\documents and Settings\NewOwner
