Networking Problem
Hello, I have a simple question. I am not asking for help in networking two XP computers. All I want is for this XP computer to show up on the network, when i browse my workgroup, entitled 'Workgroup' I do not see this box named 'WinXP'. So, I need some possible reasons, File Sharing is installed Client For Microsoft networks...also installed. I cant figureout why its not showing up. Tips please.

How did you network the 2 PCs? Through a router?
Is anything shared on it? If not, it won't show.
ASKER
Yes, there is stuff shared. The other computer is not important, I just want it to show up locally, which should not be this hard....I cant figure it out.

On the XP machine make a SOHO disk. Run that on all other machines.
Start-My Network Places-Set up a small or home office network

Things to consider:
Are the workgroup names exactly the same on each computer?
Did you run the XP networking disk on the other computer if it is not also XP?

This is the only win box on the network, I am networking it to linux boxes, All i need at this point is to figure out how to see my own computer from the win computer. Thats it, once I can see the WinComputer on the WinComputer, I can handle it from there.
A bit of info left out there. Maybe a link to this question should be posted in the Linux area.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LINUX!!!!
I JUST WANT MY COMPUTER TO SHOW UP ON THE NETWORK IF I GO TO NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD FROM THE WINDOWS COMPUTER. THE OTHER COMPUTERS ON THE NETWORK ARE COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT!!!!

Your initial question never mentioned you were trying to see the computer in it's own Network Neighborhood. I would not have mentioned my suggestions if it had. Good luck

Hmm, I suggest you to check ur workgroup names on either computers and share folder on each computer which ever u want on the network and change ur managing of passowrds on the network of the computer y going touser account in control panel.Lastly i think u should got to network neighborhood /Network connections/Lan connections right click and deselect the setting for protect ur computer against Network.
I think this should work.
