asked on

crazy one, can't use ghost to clone drive; why?

Crazy one

"Actually swapping a hard dive on the same system should not be a problem. I do it all the time. One thing to keep in mind is not to boot the system while both disk are hooked up at the same time after the cloning especially using Ghost"

just seen this:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/10631182/Moving-an-NT-installation-to-a-new-harddrive.html?query=copy+copied+copying+hard+drive+to+hard+drive&searchType=all

.....maybe it's not my imagination after all then?

......loosing NTFS permissions?
......hard coded registry entries?

ummmmmmm......doesn't look good; does it?

:(

PLEASE HELP!

banks, pete , anyone?

I've tried drive Image and ghost from a floppy but it doesn't work?

.....just hangs  at the welcome screen but without the welcome and without the users either i.e. blank blue background?

the ghost program says successful but it isn't successful at all.

Maxblast got to the desktop but that is all, then - corruption,- seems I spoke too soon :(

sysprep just hangs too? [i.e. task manager - not responding message], there is also a warning about having a suitable licence to duplicate to another drive using sysprep?

does sysprep itself require activation?
I wanted to split the points because there was NO acceptable answer, but there was only one answer so that has got the points even though the answer was not acceptable.

'As I said before Acronis True Image, Ghost, Drive Image are better backup programs than Casper. I have Casper so I know of what I say'

No, I don't agree, I have tried all these programs and FOLLOWED their instructions and the only one that worked in my case was the casper, but we are ALL aloud our favourites - well, usually?

If you come on experts exchange it seems you are forced to accept other peoples favourite programs by having them rammed down your throat! e.g. ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost etc etc...........................................

Surely it its up to people who read this stuff to make up their own minds which solutions to try out. If you continue to 'rubbish' [bad mouth] my suggestions then I WILL do the same back to you. If someone wants to try ghost or casper, then it should be up to them? You say try ghost, I say try casper! Surely I have as much right to be heard as anyone else?

Wes:

I was not trying to Advertise, promote in any way or offer to sell any goods or services for any commercial purpose. I was simply showing that there is a solution to the problem that worked for me, it may not work for everyone though?

I notice that some of the experts publish lists of commercial 3rd. party progams in these forums in order to help people solve their problems; is this not promoting commercial goods too (i.e. spam)??

e.g. here is a list like the ones that crazyone posts in order to help people:

.......or is this kind of promotion acceptable?? If you say it's acceptable for others then it is also acceptable for me. If you say that it is not acceptable for me then it must also be unacceptable for others too? Unless that is, you have a different set of rules for me than the ones used by everyone else??

I again offer my profound apology to everyone concerned.

........so those kind of lists are acceptable then?
