With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Unwanted services causing cpu usage to go from 0 to 35% every two seconds

Hello,

I have a dell 8200 laptop running win xp home and recently reinstalled the os due to viruses. After the reinstall i noticed i had another virus, used trend micro house call to get rid of it. I also use search and destroy, AVG and AdAware regularly.

My problem now is this. I noticed that my audio would cut out about every two seconds regardless of the audio source. I then noticed that the cpu usage meter mirrored this time interval going from 0% to 35% every 2 seconds. I then ran msconfig and went to selective startup services tab and finally got audio to work and cpu cycling to stop by unchecking both MS server and MS workstation services.

My question in this. Why did this happen, What do I do next to resolve this so I can return to normal startup instead of selective startup?
