How to burn DMG format on Windows?

  I found this out a while ago when looking for info on reading .DMG files on Windows or Linux boxes. I found out it was not possible, and I wasn't too happy. You see, my iMac has no CD-R drive, just a CD-ROM. This tip creates ISO images from DMG images, so they can be burned elsewhere. To convert the file to an ISO image, type the following command at your terminal window:

 hdiutil convert /path/to/filename.dmg -format UDTO -o /path/to/savefile.iso

Replace /path/to/filename.dmg with the path and name of the existing .DMG file, and replace /path/to/savefile.iso with the desired path and name for the converted image.

This then creates an ISO image burnable in Nero on Windows, or pretty much anything on Windows that will burn ISOs and same with Linux.

Once you have performed these steps, you will need to burn it as an ISO image.  You can use Nero for this, or any other ISO burning utility....  If you need help here, let us know..

Thanks FE. I read this post already. It doesn't apply to my situation cos it needs a MAC to convert the DMG to ISO first. I don't have MAC as of now. Everything should be done on PC.

Yea..  If I had read it a little closer I would not have posted the first comment...  This looks like a tough nut to crack..  Since I am not a MAC expert, I wonder if you could just Zip it up and burn it, then unzip it into the MAC..??

It seems to be no easy solution. I tried the dmg2iso, extremely slow, that's why I mentioned in my question that dmg2iso is not an option.

For the record, DMG2ISO is working great for me.  I have yet to try the disc I'm burning out on a Mac, but Nero appears to be burning the ISO successfully, recognizing that it needs to be burned HFS.

...but: there is, at present, no solution for DVD ISOs, which DMG2ISO does not appear to work with.

Perhaps I'm missing something key here. Your post said, "I have downloaded a DMG file on my Windows XP. I need to burn it onto CD, so my friend who is on MAC can install the software".

The dmg is an image of a disk, and thus your Mac (not MAC) friend can use the dmg file directly.  You don't need to convert that image type to another image type ... you just send the original image, or dmg file.

All these comments about ISO and so on an so forth would be relevant if you wanted to converted the image itself into an image for a Windows user.

So, basically, you just burn a CD with that one dmg file on it, and you're done.

Well, no, it isn't as simple as that.  It's safe to say that robinluo thought of this already and wants a CD that is essentially a clone of the disk image, rather than one just holding it.  You can't boot off a CD with a DMG on it, and he could need a bootable OS CD (burning Tiger, maybe?).

You could be correct and original poster was afraid to say it ... because perhaps it's a ripped off downloaded Tiger, the only thing I can think of you have to boot from. If so, then ... tough.

You can burn .DMG images directly to CD under windows via UltraISO ( www.ultraiso.com ) MagicISO ( www.magiciso.com ), or if you want to browse and extract it, you have 3 options... convert it to an ISO (which is silly because it's a compressed format), get ISOBuster ( www.isobuster.com ) {all my solutions have been free so far...} or if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, you can get a copy of TransMac ( http://www.asy.com/scrtm.htm ) and do it that way.
